Module 1 Devlog
Barrel Tutorial
To develop some basic skills in Blender I followed this video tutorial by SirPinkBeard (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HggtU6Nzlao) to make a barrel from a basic cylinder, and practice techniques which I found more complicated like UV unwrapping, and painting on textures.
Portfolio Piece
For the portfolio piece the objective was to model a tourist attraction in Tasmania. I chose to model the Mawson's Huts Replica Museum found in Hobart, which is a copy of an original Australian Antarctic Expedition hut. Because I believe 3D modelling is widely used in architecture, and would be especially useful when planning a replica building, I felt it would be interesting to see how faithfully I could recreate the huts as well.

Google Maps was also useful for capturing angles of the hut such as an aerial view to ensure proportional accuracy.
I found hand-painting textures to be far too difficult for this model, so instead I took ideas from these videos to make some simple materials and apply them to faces of the model instead:
Wood: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoQgq7n9Rwk

The materials could be improved in future by adding different wood directions and more details such as the wear and tear that the hut has experienced.
